CHISINAU, Moldova (27 November, 2017) - From 23 to 26 April, the Advanced Distributed Learning Working Group (ADL WG) held its first workshop of the season in Chisinau, Moldova. The workshop emphasized the progress made by nations and institutions comparatively new to ADL, and also focused on the provision of a better user interface using state-of-the-art video embedding technology, sustainment of the PfP Consortium ADL WG’s website by integrating into the GlobalNet framework and application to language training.
In many ways, this workshop presented several breakthroughs. It provided a sample online course on how to develop computer-based strategies, explored the latest developments in blended learning, and tendencies in training and education using multi-screen technologies. The enthusiasm and comprehensiveness of national presentations on ADL, made by participants eager to report on their own innovations and discoveries, was notable.
For those who saw the ADL initiative from its infancy (the ADL WG is one of the most potent training and education enabler for the PfP Consortium), the changes are staggering. Diversity has successfully been leveraged to account for the success of this working group. Training and education material prepared by the PfP Consortium and its partners are now available to the farthest reaches of Europe, anytime, anywhere, and to ever greater numbers.
The workshop welcomed some 35 participants and speakers from Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. The hospitality of the Moldovan host, the Alexandru Cel Bun Military Academy represented by its commandant COL Sergiu Plop and LCOL Irina Babara, cannot be over-stated; it was the catalyst that made this workshop so productive, and every participant, as well as the organizers and coordinators of the event, remain extremely grateful for this generosity.
The next workshop will be hosted by the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy, on 23-26 April 2018. Preparations to make this workshop also a success are already underway.
